It’s finally here the post you’ve all been waiting for “Unemployed Denim X TheManhattanMini.” I’m sorry it took so long to get this post up, life, school and work got the best of me. I also had a specific vision in my head of what I wanted this post to look like and I was determined to make it happen, once I get something in my head there’s no stopping me until I make it happen. Enough about me though let’s get to the good stuff… my custom jacket from Unemployed Denim!
Customization and personalization of clothing has become a big craze in the fashion world recently. More and more brands are incorporating ways to personalize or customize their products in a way to individually cater to their customers. When something is personalized, or customized, it is made by you, for you, and only you! There’s nothing else quite like it in the world, literally. I personally love this idea because it truly gives you a chance to express yourself. Although our style and clothes already allows us to express ourselves, customization and personalization takes it to the next level. Allowing us to feel different from everyone else in the best way possible, allowing you to truly stand out and show your real self!
Unemployed Denim is a company that has taken customization and personalization to an entirely new level. Sydney Izen is the founder of Unemployed Denim, and she works hard to make sure when you shop with her company, you’re getting a serious customized piece. You can customize denim jackets, bomber jackets, tees, jeans, and sweatshirts. The best part about these items is that nearly all of them are vintage pieces, especially the denim jackets. Sydney (U.D. Founder) personally goes to thrift stores, and shops on different sites to search for the best vintage denim. Not one denim jacket on her site is alike.

Customizing My Unemployed Denim Jacket:
I am still beyond obsessed with my denim jacket, and I don’t think the obsession will be slowing down anytime soon. Unemployed Denim and their mission of creating “reworked, custom, and one of a kind” pieces is truly amazing and there are no other brands/stores out there that will allow you to customize your clothing to this extent and make it SO easy.
I personalized my denim jacket to my style, and personality. I chose what I wanted my jacket to say, the font it’s written in, the 6 patches, and the stripes for specific reasons. Here are the reasons why I customized my jacket the way I did:
TheManhattanMini- Yes for the obvious reason, it’s my blog name!
White Rose- My middle name is rose!
Dripping Lips- Ok, going to be honest with this one, there is no real reason for this one. I just loved this patch and it reminded me of Kylie Cosmetics (yes I’m a Kardashian/Jenner Lover).
Black Heart with Eyes- This is the signature heart from the designer Comme Des Garcons. She designs some of the craziest pieces, and I admire her for that!
Go Away Heart- “Go Away” is what I think to myself every day when I walk the streets of NYC. Although, the heart is around it because I mean it in the nicest way possible, I’m just a total germaphobic.
Star- As you’ll know from my previous blog post I’m obsessed with the stars trend right now. But also, because it reminds me to keep shining and not to let anything dull my shine.
Hasma Hand- Protects against evil, and this Hasma was so pretty I needed to put it on!
The White Stripes- Again no significant reason, just the fact that they looked totally awesome on the jacket!
Styling My Unemployed Denim Jacket:
The way I styled my custom denim jacket might be my favorite outfit I’m yet to share on TheManhattanMini. Like I mentioned in the beginning of this post, I had a specific vision in my head of what I wanted this post to look like. Part of that vision was trying out denim on denim for the first time! The key to wearing denim on denim is wearing two different washes. Light wash top, dark wash bottom or vice versa. Wearing dark denim with dark denim, or light with light, never seems to look right because the washes will always be slightly off! My custom Unemployed Denim jacket is light wash, so I went with a darker wash of jeans; but as you’ll see not too dark! The jeans I picked were clearly darker than my jacket, but these jeans do have a light undertone that complimented my jacket! Once I tried this full outfit on I was so excited, because this is exactly how I envisioned it in my head (haha). Now for the outfit details, clearly this jacket is a one of a kind designed by ME with the help from Unemployed Denim! My jeans I purchased so long ago from Hollister (boyfriend style), that I just recently distressed and frayed the bottom of myself! I was thinking of doing a DIY post on “How to Fray Jeans.”If this sounds like something you’d be interested in please comment below! My tee is a basic from no other than one of my favorites Zara. Lastly, my white booties are from Express, and totally completed this entire look! I hope you guys love this outfit as much as I do, let me know what you think by leaving a comment below or on my Instagram @themanhattanmini !
